SHAFT HOLLOW

Many houses in Shaft Hollow are inhabited, well-taken care of and afford a comfortable dwelling place. Some houses have been torn down and the rubble removed. Other houses have been destroyed by fire or simply fallen down. Their remains are the 'rubble' that is so unsightly. It would be helpful if all of this rubble would be cleaned up.

Many times, the houses were uninsured, and the occupants were rendered homeless, for a short while. New vacancies are hard to come by and rentals likewise are hard to come by. Building a new house is virtually unheard of. Trailers are the common alternative. The lot of the burned down house is often left as rubble. The rubble is so unsightly. It is the major distraction of the neighborhood. It would be so nice if something could be done about it.

The buildings of Olga Coal Company, Portal #2, are now torn down. The 'bucket' cables that trammed slate up the mountain are lying on the ground. A new 'cleaning plant' has been constructed. Click onto 'Tipple' to view the progress.
